“Mi voglio Sicurǝ”: the training project on road safety for high school students promoted by the Metropolitan City of Milan and Safety21 continues and reaches its second edition.

Today in the classroom the students of the IPS Cavalieri Institute of Milan.

Following the success of last year’s training sessions in schools and the launch of the first PCTO on Road Safety last November, by the end of the 2024-25 school year, there will be an additional 2,000 students of driving age involved in the activity planned within the “Milan Metropolitan Safety Project” to raise awareness of responsible driving.

The training course “Mi voglio sicuro” was held this morning at the IPS B.Cavalieri – D.Marignoni Institute in Milan, to raise awareness among young people about more responsible driving. The educational format aimed at high schools is part of the “Milan Metropolitan Safety Project” proposed by the Metropolitan City of Milan with Safety21, for the reduction of accidents and the achievement of the European strategic objective “2050 Zero victims on the roads”.

The educational program, created for the Metropolitan City of Milan by Safety21, with the consultancy of the Lorenzo Guarnieri ONLUS Association – which has been at the forefront of road violence prevention for over 10 years – aims to train young citizens, making them increasingly responsible and aware of the importance of adopting safe behavior on the road for themselves and for others.

Around 2,000 students from the metropolitan city of Milan will be involved in the “Mi voglio Sicurǝ” project by June, which, for the 2024-25 school year, also provides students with the opportunity to participate in in-depth online sessions and a final competition with recognition of educational credits.

This is what the councilor responsible for infrastructures commentsDaniela Caputo: “From what I have found in meetings held over the years, the new generations are particularly receptive to messages on road safety. Only by involving girls and boys from schools of all levels will it be possible to obtain lasting results with respect to awareness of the risks associated with driving and the promotion of responsible behavior.”.

The meeting at the IPS B.Cavalieri – D.Marignoni Institute in Milan was opened by greetings from the Headmaster Prof. Giovanni A. Maliandi and saw the Institutional interventions of Daniela Caputo – Councilor delegated to Infrastructure and Metrotranvie of the Metropolitan City of Milan and Alessandra Tadini – Director of the Infrastructure Area of the Metropolitan City of Milan. During the morning, the classes (third, fourth and fifth grade sections) had the opportunity to interactively learn the fundamentals of safer, more sustainable and respectful mobility, thanks to the intervention of experts in the sector.

Among the topics discussed during the morning were “The role of the road in our lives and the perception of risk” with the intervention of Stefano Guarnieri – Founder of the Lorenzo Guarnieri Association and “Practical elements of road safety” provided by the Commander of the Local Police of the Metropolitan City of Milan Pieralessandro Scotti. At the end of the meeting, language and communication were discussed, emphasizing the importance of a conscious and effective approach in transmitting messages.

Stefano Guarnieri adds that: “Educating young people is the best weapon we have to try to make a road mobility system safe where 8 people die every day in Italy. I hope that the course can help form a “culture of safety” that will be useful to boys and girls not only on the road but also at work and throughout their lives.”
The program that was addressed to the kids was full of food for thought and practical examples regarding a theme that unites many aspects and a single objective: preventing accidents and saving lives.

The topics covered can then be revisited in class, through access to an e-learning training path (PCTO – Path for Transversal Skills and Orientation) that will provide students with 30 hours of training credits, exploring key topics such as the links between vehicles and infrastructure, risk perception and preventive actions to reduce road hazards.

Students who complete the entire training course will have the opportunity to obtain an additional 15 training credits through a project work. This will consist of the creation of a social communication campaign on road safety in which students will be Ambassadors of a responsible and aware road culture. The project work, the subject of an educational competition, will see students engaged in teamwork, at the end of which a jury of experts in the sector will select the three best projects. The winners will be awarded in an official event in the presence of the Institutions.

After the meeting at the IPS B. Cavalieri – D. Marignoni Institute, the “Mi voglio Sicur” project will continue its training path by also involving third, fourth and fifth year students of other secondary schools such as: the Marconi and Argentia Industrial Technical Institute of Gorgonzola, the Galilei High School of Legnano, the ISS Cattaneo and the ITS Pasolini of Milan.
